URBAN FARM

Our Program
Over the past seven years the AOVS Urban Farm Program has provided fresh food for the veterans housed in each of the facilities we operate, as well as therapeutic gardening opportunities, volunteer and employment opportunities, and additional on-the-job educational opportunities including animal husbandry, basic mechanic skills, and customer service. Our farming philosophy and practices are based in minimizing soil disruption, nurturing soil ecosystems, and employing techniques that build up, rather than degrade, the immediate and surrounding ecosystems.
Our Farms
In February 2018 the Alpha Omega Urban Farm program began with the development of a 3/4 acre farm at our Ball Road facility. In 2023, the AOVS Urban Farm program expanded to develop a second farm location on our site at Jackson Avenue, with approximately one acre of outdoor production space as well as a hydroponic container farm with the capacity to produce 2-3 acres worth of food annually. This expansion was made possible by funding through the USDA’s Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (UAIP) competitive grant program. The farm program is Certified Naturally Grown and certified Homegrown by Heroes, a part of the Farmer Veteran Coalition.
Our Food
We sell our produce to the public at the Cooper Young Farmers Market and Roxie’s Fresh Food Fridays. You may also find it served up in something tasty at Lulu’s Bakery, Tamboli’s Pizza and Pasta, or any of the schools and community orgs that source produce through Feedwells Inc.
If you’re interested in purchasing produce from us for your market or kitchen, reach out to Devan at delconte@alphaomegaveterans.org or place an order directly through our wholesale store, open weekly, from 12 pm Mondays until 10:30 am Tuesdays.
